Published: 13 Sep 2012 updated: 27 Sep 2012
From the Commonwealth Games Federation:

This is the Twitter interview as it happened with @21stCentLegacy on #cgf10questions.
thecgf: This is a live Twitter interview with English athletic
legend David Hemery @21stCentLegacy #cgf10questions
thecgf: Thanks to David and everyone joining us today. Hi David!
#cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: Hi Peter, great to join you, hello to everyone
#cgf10questions
thecgf: Hi David! The 1966 CWG was your first international
victory, what was that like? #cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: Jamaica was exciting! Great meeting people
like Kenyan Kip Keino. #cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: I hardly warmed up for my high hurdle final as
I had a fever & felt weak! #cgf10questions
thecgf: Gosh, by the way, Kip's here at the CGF general
assembly in Kampala, and he says 'hello'! #cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: Please say hello to Kip for me #cgf10questions
thecgf: You retained your title in the 1970, the first Games to
use metric units. Was it easier the second time around?
#cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: Yes, I was still very nervous but older, stronger
and faster & we had a 'home' crowd advantage in Edinburgh -
like London2012 #cgf10questions
thecgf: Your victory in the 1968 Olympics is still thrilling to
watch, an 8m margin & new WR. Do you feel the same after 44
years? #cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: David Coleman's commentary put in emotional
excitement. I have relived the race many times feeling the thrill,
relief & joy #cgf10questions
thecgf: '68 was also famous for Tommy Smith and John Carlos'
'salute' - what did you think of that at the time?
#cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: Studying in the US gave me appreciation of
how differently black athletes were treated out of the sports
arena. #cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: Tommy & John raised positive awareness of this
situation #cgf10questions
thecgf: How was @London2012 for you? #cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: @London2012 Awesome, magic, rewarding,
positive and transformational. #cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: @London2012 It was a privilege to have
experienced what felt like the lifting of the UK vibration.
#cgf10questions
thecgf: This is a Twitter interview with David Hemery
@21stCentLegacyI'm tweeting with David and we're about halfway
through #cgf10questions
thecgf: David, can you tell us a bit about your @London2012
inspired project and what motivated you to get involved?

#cgf10questions

Be! Programme in Primary and Secondary Schools across the UK
#bethebestyoucanbe #cgf10questions
thecgf: How is it different for young people today, compared to
say when you were growing up? #cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: There are many more technology options for
entertainment. We were far more able & willing to play outdoors.
#cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: Also, there were less parental fears for their
children. #cgf10questions
thecgf: What advice do you have for teachers and parents
looking to coach young people? #cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: Push and you get push back. Ask open
questions. Listen deeply & empathically to their responses.
#cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: Listening is a real and undervalued gift - Listen
to their dreams, avoid pushing yours #cgf10questions
thecgf: Good advice! #cgf10questions
thecgf: What changes would you like to see from governing
bodies and sport federations to promote drug-free sport?
#cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: Added to UK Sport policing, it's about personal
education. Every choice has a consequence. #cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: Ultimately the key is self-responsibility. Good
coaching facilitates this. #cgf10questions
thecgf: Final question... #cgf10questions
thecgf: You were in Edinburgh in 1970 - Scotland's first CWG.
Are you looking forward to @Glasgow2014? #cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: I am greatly looking forward to @Glasgow2014
- our Commonwealth 'Friendly Games'. #cgf10questions
21stCentLegacy: I hope @Glasgow2014 can take forward the UK
Olympic & Paralympic atmosphere from this summer.

there #cgf10questions
