Erin Duffy is 9 years old. Her dream is to become a singer and a songwriter, and through the 21st Century Legacy Be the Best you can Be! Programme she had taken part in at her school, that dream took a big step towards reality. Her song is called ‘Erin’s Song’.
One day, after school, Erin wrote a song about ‘Being the Best you can Be’ and was brave enough to sing it to former Olympic Champion, Dr David Hemery CBE. This video of Erin was sent by David to Paul Smith, a founder member of the internationally renowned vocal group, VOCES8. The group works to inspire 25,000 young people every year through their music foundation, and they decided to help Erin turn her ideas for a song into reality.
Paul and the singers in VOCES8 worked with Thomas Hewitt Jones, their composer in residence, to help Erin fulfil her dream, and Erin joined VOCES8 and Thomas in the studio to record her debut single, Erin's Song. The song is being released as a charity single, and twenty-five percent of the proceeds will be split between the charities working to inspire young people through music and education, and Erin herself. Paul said: "VOCES8 has had a fantastic time singing with Erin, and I hope this great song can be used to raise money for young people across the country, and to build a scholarship fund to help Erin pursue her music in the coming years. I think Erin's Song would make a great Number 1!"
David Hemery developed the Be the Best you can Be! Programme to help to fulfil a London 2012 Olympic Bid promise that our Games would inspire the youth of Britain and the rest of the world. The former world record holder founded 21st Century Legacy as an educational Charity to deliver the Be the Best you can Be! Programme in Primary and Secondary Schools to enable young people to unlock the potential within themselves and to pursue and fulfil their dreams.
The Be the Best you can Be! Programme is currently running in more than 60 Secondary Schools impacting on the lives of over 10,000 students.
In support of 21st Century Legacy HRH the Princess Royal said: "The Be the Best you can Be! Programme is a great way to help to fulfil the promise that the London 2012 Olympic Games would be an inspiration to the youth of Britain and the rest of the world."
