The Primary Programme
The Programme commences with a Staff Development workshop for teachers and other staff to further their coaching/facilitation skills i.e. effective questioning and enhanced listening. The quality, sensitivity and creativity of these skills are something that can be endlessly developed and through these skills the intent is to raise awareness and responsibility in young people. Teachers as exceptional role models will be invaluable for pupils.
The Programme enables teachers to design a learning journey that provides a foundation for planning activities that meet the individual needs of their young people. The themes have been set out to give a suggested structure to the Programme, so that activities may be extended and revisited, with Teachers adding their unique touch to make them personally relevant to their audience.
A role model visits to inspire young people by sharing the story of their personal journey to success. To challenge young people to follow their dreams and raise their aspirations and motivation to 'Be the Best they can Be' in whatever field they choose.
Encouraging pupils to see themselves achieving success and promote the idea of having a dream, which they can work towards becoming a reality.
Understanding values and how they influence behaviour.
Developing the life skill of learning how to ask effective questions and becoming empathic, attentive listeners. This skill is the 'how to' of empowerment and can lead to peer coaching.
Exploring the meaning of comfort zones and how valuable it is to explore new things, take risks and the first steps. Gaining an understanding of resilience and recognise what type of situations will require it. Many young people have to face difficulties, stressful events and/or tragedy in their lives. It is intended that this theme will help all participants find strategies to help them move in a positive direction.
Understanding the alignment of the four elements of Body, Mind, Emotion & Spirit to achieve goals.
- Body Understanding what affects performance, health and well-being...
- Mind Using the mind effectively - mind maps, focus, positive thought...
- Emotion Developing emotional intelligence, understanding how emotions influence behaviour and management...
- Spirit Understanding what gives individuals meaning and purpose and recognising that with thought, commitment and action everyone can make a positive contribution to a better future for themselves and their communities.
